Once restricted to computers only, Skype is taking the next step and eliminating the PC middleman. In fact, your computer doesn’t even need to be on to use the Belkin WiFi Phone. But if you do happen do be at your desk, Skype works simultaneously on your phone as well as your computer. When you receive a call, both will ring at the same time and you can answer from either the computer or the phone.
The set up for the Belkin WiFi Phone for Skype is surprisingly easy. After charging the battery, just turn on the phone and select your language. Current languages include only English, Chinese and Korean, but Belkin assures that more are on the way. The phone immediately tries to connect to the first available open access point and you can select different access points if need be. The Belkin WiFi Phone also has a Wireless Network browser which allows you to find an open connection so you can make calls.
If using an existing Skype ID, your contact list is automatically loaded and by pressing the menu button you can call anyone on that list. If you want to SkypeOut, simply dial the number as usual. Unlike many other WiFi Skype phones, there is no need to hit the plus sign or additional characters before the number you are dialing.
We love the fact that the Belkin WiFi Phone for Skype can be used anywhere in the world where you have access to a WiFi network. And unlike regular cell phones, there are no roaming charges applied no matter where you go. The Belkin WiFi Phone for Skype takes internet telephony to the next level, and the seamless integration makes for a welcomed and painless transition.
