ESET NOD32 Antivirus

If you are looking for a great anti-virus software then you should really check out the ESET NOD32 Antivirus from ESET! If you are like me you are probably running Norton or McAffee and you are wondering why your system is bogged down all the time. Believe it or not it might be your Anti-Virus causing your trouble... Let me tell you why...

Ok so you are wondering why on earth your Anti-Virus program might be causing you trouble right?  The way things work with most Anti-Virus programs is pretty straight forward:

A new virus comes out
A few days later someone uploads it to the virus submissions department at your program's company.
They dissect it and come up with what is called a signature (which is basically a copy of the program).
The program is updated with the new "Signature" along with a methodology to either remove or delete various affected files and presto your program can detect the new virus and get rid of it.

This is a very simple de scri ption of what happens, but it is fairly accurate.  So, by now you are saying ok... what's the big deal, sounds great.  Well it is great, except that there are a ton of virii our there and Norton has been around for a long time!  Since is stores basically a copy of every virus known to man it's become what we call BLOATWARE.  It's huge.  This database has to be loaded into memory or swapped to disk everytime you access a file and that is... processor intensive to say the least.

Why ESET NOD32 Antivirus?

Enter ESET NOD32.  These guys just build a better mouse trap.  They have a method for detecting suspicious activity. Other companies like Norton do too, but ESET does it better than everyone else.  Because they do it better than everyone else they can rely on it a lot more.  So what they do is have a real light signature database that they use in conjunction with their method for detecting suspicious activity (heuristics).  The result is a faster, more reliable, less CPU intensive, less intrusive method to catch the bad guy.  In addition, because they rely more on Heuristics then they do signatures, they catch the stuff that isn't identified yet, keeping your system much safer than the competition!

All in all I have to say I've noticed a considerable improvement in my system speed since I installed ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus.  I love it, and I won't be changing software anytime soon! 3 out of 3 stars for ESET NOD32 Antivirus.  I'm also nominating it for the Best Virus Solution of 2008 award.
